Welcome

About our club
At Weybread Sailing club we value the opportunity to access places like our lake for leisure, general well-being, being part of a fun community spirit and learning skills. The lake has been part of a water loving community for over 35 yrs and we hope to preserve this for the future generations of sailors and other water-sports lovers.
Our aim is to offer an accessible and affordable non judgemental club with a supportive, friendly, fun, and relaxed approach.

We are a club for the local community, and it is through our members volunteering for duties that we are able to make improvements and keep the sailing club accessible and affordable. We are truly grateful for that help, without which we could not keep the subscriptions as low as we do. If you, or your children, benefit from our facilities we’d love to see you at one of the work parties during the season, it’s also a great way to meet other members.

Membership of the Club is capped to protect the experience of members and anglers, the wildlife and to stay within the capacity of the site facilities. Membership applications for 2024/25 are currently closed. Please contact us in January 2025 to register your interest in becoming a member next season.
Club facilities
Weybread Sailing Club offers a friendly and a pleasant atmosphere in which to relax, unwind and of course enjoy the water. Our facilities are practical if a little rustic which we believe adds to the character and relaxed nature of the club. That said, we are great believers in staying safe and learning while having fun on the water. We offer various courses and events that are both educational and fun.
Events for members and non members are available to book here
The Lake
The lakes official name is Weybread Ocean Pit. It is a re-purposed gravel pit of approximately 1km long that we share with the local angling club and many migrating birds. It is ideal for windsurfing, dinghy sailing, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding and is enjoyed by members and other organised groups. There are two slipways, a launching beach and a pontoon available. It has an undulating shingle bed that drops off quickly and is deep in parts, this why we ask everyone partaking in any water activity to wear a buoyancy aid or life jacket.

Boat and equipment storage
For our members we have a variety of lockable sheds and containers that offer space for canoes, kayaks and other smaller water sport equipment. We offer outdoor storage for craft under 17ft and outdoor rack space for kayaks, canoes and boards. These are payable annually with membership. Please contact us if you are a member and interested in storing your equipment with us.

Family Friendly Beach
It is a popular place with families, especially our paddling beach area which has a gentle slope into the water, ideal for taking a cooling dip on those hot days, paddling and building sandcastles. All children under 18yr must wear a buoyancy aid or suitable floatation vest for small children and be supervised by an adult member at all times. Please note the lake is for water sports and sailing craft and is very deep and cold in places. For these reasons and safety of all members those wanting to paddle and take a dip are to do so from this area only.

Changing areas
We have toilets on site, which include a changing area for getting in and out of wet gear. There is no mains water to the club so there are no showers, and all water for the toilets is either rain or lake water. There is a rain water fed hand wash station with soap provided and hand sanitiser is available, however we highly recommend you bring your own too.
We have a static caravan which is a members area to use as a dry area only, to warm up and get a wind free view of the lake.
